Most Expensive Dessert Contains Edible Gold

Wealth, and food. Each of these has a way of captivating the imaginations of people all around the world, and when it comes to the world’s most expensive dessert, there’s nothing as mind boggling as the price someone would pay for a little frozen chocolate and some edible gold leaf. At New York’s Serendipity 3 restaurant, the famous Frozen Haute Chocolate may not be a cupcake, but since it is something tasty and chocolaty and is served in a cup, we’re going to go ahead and talk about today. I first discovered this opulent confection while watching a lifestyle channel on Time Warner Cable TV featuring some of the world’s trendiest and most lavish dining establishments and their trademark dishes. The restaurant doesn’t look like much from the outside, but inside it has a quaint charm. The menu is not what you’d expect from a place that offers a dessert costing $25,000. Yes, you heard that right: twenty-five thousand dollars. While most of the gold, and the rare and expensive truffles, are edible, you do at least get to keep a 24k gold spoon that the dessert is served with. And the little gold crown at its base. Could you imagine anyone spending so much money on a single dessert? Or really, on anything at all that wouldn’t last longer than half an hour? I think I could probably take that down in less than fifteen minutes.

How Is Frozen Haute Chocolate Made?

There are plenty of reasons a person would want to create a more economical version of this high class treat at home, and it would appear to be quite easy to do. All you’d need is some edible gold leaf, which can be bought for about $49 USD online. For that money, you’d have more than enough to make several of these desserts and impress your family or friends on a special occasion. You don’t really have to use the world’s most expensive truffles or chocolate; the gold will do all the impressing you want done. You could also save some money by serving it with something other than a solid gold spoon. Check out the video for how the Frozen Haute Chocolate is made and see if you can come up with your own.

Cake is important. It’s the reason we have the cupcake to enjoy. Cakes are used to celebrate major life events such as birthdays, weddings, and new jobs. Cake is enjoyed around the world with coffee, tea, and carbonated beverages. Some prefer it fancy and sweet, while others like a savory cake with a rustic texture. No matter the kind of cake you prefer, you will appreciate today’s fact filled infographic on the history of cake.

For centuries, there have been cakes in all areas and cultures of the world. It seems a natural progression that humans would discover tasty ingredients and create dough that would stick them all together so that they could be baked. Here is the infographic explaining a little more about where cake came from.

Ever wondered how to make your cupcake icing absolutely perfect? Buttery, yet light, and completely spreadable cupcake icing is perhaps the most important external detail in the art of making these delightful little cakes. If you spend all day working out your perfect cake recipe and getting it just precisely right, the last thing you want is to have to slather an inferior icing over the top of the cake, potentially ruining it’s texture and flavor. The delicate nature of a well baked cupcake calls for precision and keen attention to the elusive details of icing. That’s why today, we’re going to focus deeply on how to prepare the perfect butter cream frosting for any cupcake.

After the butter cream icing is made, it is important not to over handle it. Doing so will ruin the texture and lightness of the icing. That can be a challenge when you have used a spatula to place the icing in a piping bag, expecting it to come out perfectly as you decorate to your heart’s content, but it is not impossible. You, too, can make perfect butter cream icing and have it behaving for you in no time. To demonstrate, here is an excellent video that will help you get started.

Ah, baking is so much fun! I have been baking up a storm thanks to our annual Christmas party coming up, and I am so excited for people to come enjoy all of the wonderful treats that I have prepared. I’m talking about dozens and dozens of cookies, pies, cakes, cake pops, and of course cupcakes. There are so many yummy treats in my house it’s a wonder I am still able to fit in my clothes with all the nibbling I’m doing. All of these treats are ready to be eaten, and they certainly will be.

This year I did have to get a little creative with some of my goodies though. You see, some of our friends have recently decided to live a vegan lifestyle. That does not bother me one bit, but (eek!) how do you bake for vegans? Thank goodness for the old Google machine because without it, the friends might have had to skip out on the tastiness that I created.

I found an infographic from Peta that helped tremendously with my questions, and no it is not graphic. It’s actually kind of cute and makes me want to consider the lifestyle for myself. So if you have any vegan friends or just want to know substitutions and such to make any recipe vegan, here you go!

Winter is nearly here, and the holiday season is upon us at last. With Thanksgiving only two days away, our thoughts are now drifting to Christmastime and all the goodies that come with that. Visions of sugar plums dance in peoples’ heads, and so do sugar cookies, fruit cake, and other wintertime sweets. And let us not forget the delicious winter cupcakes that can make your holidays even brighter. You can very easily make delicious winter cupcakes at home to give as gifts or to have ready when guests arrive.

In the video below you will watch as one woman makes her own special variety of wintry cupcakes, custom decorated for the holidays. Think snow white icing, light and fluffy cake batter risen to perfection in a hot oven on a cold and cloudy day. Consider using winter colored decorations that are as delicious as they are beautiful: crushed candy cane, slivered dark chocolate, edible gold. Invite your home security team to join you for cupcakes and hot chocolate after all your baking is done, and enjoy!

It is an undisputed fact that America has recently become obsessed with cupcakes. If you turn on videoed and check out the cooking channels, you will invariably notice perhaps four or five programs per week dedicated to the subject of cupcakes; discussions of cupcake themed celebrity events and private parties abound, as do celebrity chefs and their efforts to promote and celebrate cupcakes. For example, here are some Kardashians, spotted eating a cupcake:

Now, you know if the Kardashians can chomp on a cupcake, so can everyone else. We are very susceptible, we Americans. If we see our favorite celebs doing something, we think we should do it too, and before you know it there is an epidemic — like the cupcake plague we are currently living through.

Perhaps I misspoke. After all, cupcakes are not the worst thing in the world. A tripple cheeseburger with four slices of cheese, chili, mayonnaise and other dreadful toppings including bacon or sliced butter, for instance, would be far worse.

And then, there is the Cruise Factor. If Tom and TomKat let Suri Cruise eat a cupcake, that’s a sign it’s probably A-okay, right? The Cruises are infamous for their mutual eccentricities involving participation in the Church of Scientology, their denial of psychiatry as a legitimate field of medicine, and their dedication to only letting Katie Holmes eat frozen grapes for sustenance — but they are perfectly sane when it comes to cupcakes.

So, how related is the American Cupcake Obsession to celebrity participation in it? Probably pretty close, according to some analysts. We are affected by what pop icons do, and if they catch onto something and then begin practicing it themselves, soon enough we’ve got ourselves a full blown escapade. That’s how celebrity works. What is coming next? (I’m rooting for a New Pizza Obession, or something involving eclairs….) Still, only Hollywood seems to know what they will latch onto in the future. Hungry yet?

It seems like the end of October is almost here, and I have already been getting my fill of delicious Halloween candies and cupcakes. The other day our church held a Fall Festival and I helped plan the kids’ cupcake walk. Some of the cupcakes brought in were so cute. Bugs, ghosts, pumpkins, and mummies topped off the cupcakes that were individually wrapped for the little ones playing in the cupcake walk. With that large assortment of ideas, I wanted to share some fun ideas for cupcakes with you all, and I figured I could even give you instructions for the cupcake walk for kids. Or, for the adults add some hot stuff!

Cupcake Walk

Now, you have probably seen a cake walk where it is like a game of musical chairs and whoever is left standing when the music is turned off is out. Well, the cupcake walk is a great way to let all the kids have a chance to win.

You will need 10 paper plates, 20 animal pictures printed from online (10 animals, two copies of each), a glue stick, and scissors. Glue one set of the animals to the paper plates and cut out the copies to go into a hat or bucket for you to pick out of.

To play the game, arrange the plates in a circle on the ground. Play music. When the music stops the kids stop at the plate where they landed. Draw an animal image from the bucket and call out the animal type. Whoever is at that animal wins! You can either put aside the drawn image and pick up the plate or let a child join in the fun. It’s easy and kids love it.

Fun Cupcake Ideas

These brain cupcakes are not only spooky, but they look so easy. Just pipe on the icing in the center and the sides for a creepy brainy cupcake. Kids and zombies will love these treats.

Can you tell I’m looking for ease here? The ghost cupcakes are darling, and it is just a nutter butter covered in white icing with a face iced on it. Not a good idea if you know kids with peanut allergies will be present, and if you don’t know you can use some of the other ideas just to be safe.

Licorice hair, candy corn nose, and a chocolate cone and you’ve got yourself a delicious looking witch!

Let’s face it, cupcakes are not the healthiest things for us to chow down on. Now, they are not the most unhealthy either, but anytime I find a tasty looking recipe that is a little bit healthier than usual I get excited. So I must tell you how very excited I was to find a recipe for cupcakes that use shredded apple to take place of some of the oil. Honestly I did not just come across this recipe though, I was researching some healthy alternatives for my father. Unfortunately he just had coronary artery bypass surgery, and he has to start eating healthier, even when it comes to sweets. The whole family enjoyed these tasty cakes, and they are perfect for fall. I hope you like them too. Here is my recipe for Apple Spice and Marshmallow Cupcakes which was adapted from EatingWell’s version.

Ingredients

Cupcakes

1 1/2 cups peeled shredded apples

1/2 dried diced apples

3 tablespoons light brown sugar, packed, plus 3/4 cup – divided

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided

1/3 cup canola oil

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3/4 cup whole wheat pastry flour

3/4 cup cake flour

3/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup nonfat buttermilk

Frosting

1 cup light brown sugar

1/4 cup water

4 teaspoons dried egg whites, reconstituted to directions on package

1/4 teaspoon cream of tarter

pinch of salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions

Cupcakes

-Preheat the oven to 350° and line your 12 muffin cups with liners.

-In a bowl combine both apples and 3 tablespoons of brown sugar and 1/3 teaspoon of cinnamon and set it to the side.

-In a large sized mixing bowl, beat the oil and brown sugar on a medium speed until completely combined. Next beat in each egg one at a time. Add the vanilla in and mix on high for about a minute.

-Combine the dry ingredients of whole wheat flour, cake flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl.

-Leave the mixer on a low speed and alternate adding in the dry ingredients and buttermilk into the batter. Start with the dry ingredients and end with them too. Then add in the apple mixture and combine.

-Add the batter to the cupcake cups. They will be full.

-Bake the cupcakes for 20-23 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean once entered into the center of the cake. Let cool for an hour prior to serving.

Frosting

-Allow for two inches of water to come to a bowl in a double boiler.

-In top of the double boiler mix 1 cup of brown sugar and 1/4 cup of water. Heat it over the water and stir until the brown sugar dissolves.

-Add the reconstituted egg whites, the cream of tarter, and salt.

-Beat with a mixer until it becomes thick and shiny looking, about 6 minutes.

-Remove the top pan from theheat source and beat for an additional minute.

-Beat in the vanilla and cinnamon on a low speed.

-Frost the cupcakes and sprinkle with cinnamon.

These cupcakes are super good and fairly good for you. They are also perfect treats for the fall! Enjoy!

Instead of writing out a recipe this week, I decided to post a how-to video for you instead. This is one of my favorite recipes especially for events that are centered around children. What kind of kid does not love cupcakes, and secondly, what kind of kid would not want a cupcake in an ice cream cone? That is what I thought, there are not many kids who could turn such a thing down. These cupcakes are adorable, tasty, and fun. With all that said I had to try them out.

My niece’s fifth birthday party happened to be over the weekend while the whole family was at the beach, and I figured that we could all celebrate with cupcake cones. I was right. They were a hit and all of the family wanted to know how I had made these treats. I used the video that you see below, and I found that they are surprisingly very easy to create. So, have a watch and get to baking!
